Study in the USA: The Post-Pandemic Recovery Continues
12:08 21/03/2024
Last month, there were 26,919 Vietnamese students in the US, mostly in higher education, according to the SEVIS Data Mapping Tool. Here’s the breakdown in descending numerical order:
Four-year colleges and universities: 13,345 (49.5%)
Community colleges: 3,630 (13.5%)
Master’s: 3,238 (12%)
Secondary: 2,408 (8.9%)
Ph.D.: 2,083 (7.7%)
Language Training: 1,383 (5.1%)
Other: 689 (2.6%)
Four-year institutions continue to attract the most Vietnamese students for the same reasons: there are more of them than ever actively recruiting in Vietnam with lower price points than ever.
The shift to graduate programs continues for the same reasons: many Vietnamese students completed their undergraduate degree in Vietnam because of the pandemic and are now pursuing graduate study in the US and other countries.
While enrollment in English programs inched up, it’s still exceedingly difficult to obtain an F-1 for these programs because of past abuses.
Here are the top 10 host states in descending order:
California: 4,087
Texas: 3,346
Massachusetts: 1,853
Washington: 1,718
New York: 1,482
Florida: 1,384
Pennsylvania: 1,383
Ohio: 1,188
Illinois: 1,145
Georgia: 796
12,486, or 46%, are in the top five (5) host states. That percentage for the top 10 states is 68%.
Finally, the gender gap widened slightly. 14,369 Vietnamese females (53.4%) are studying in the US vs. 12,550 (46.6%) males.
