Mark Ashwill Appointed to JCIHE Advisory Board

Mark Ashwill, Ph.D., Capstone Vietnam managing director and co-founder, has been named to the advisory board of The Journal of Comparative and International Higher Education (JCIHE), an open access, independent, peer-reviewed international journal publishing original contributions to the field of comparative and international higher education.  The journal serves as a place to share new thinking on analysis, theory, policy, and practice that relates to issues that influence comparative and international higher education.  The JCIHE is the official journal of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Higher Education Special Interest Group (HESIG).  

Dr. Ashwill is a self-described "academic by training, international educator & education entrepreneur by trade" who earned a Ph.D. in Comparative and Higher Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo Department of Educational Leadership and Policy.  He holds MA and BA degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and the University of Delaware.  Ashwill also studied, taught, and conducted research in Germany, including the German Democratic Republic (former East Germany).  

During 1994/95, he worked as a primary researcher on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) Case Study Project in Germany, Japan and the U.S.  During that time, Ashwill was a Research Associate at the University of Michigan’s Center for Human Growth and Development (CHGD) and a visiting scholar at the Goethe University Frankfurt and Northwestern University.  In 2003, he became the first US American to be awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist Grant to Viet Nam.
